Creative Clusters Map

Based on the Danish Central Business Register records (CVR) we build a map that explored the geographic clustering of companies from the creative sectors in Denmark. The visualization was geared towards exploring which areas besides the usual suspects would house agencies from sectors such as architecture, advertising, programming, film-production etc. The clusters can be broken down into smaller subgroups, yielding further patters, by filtering the businesses by their size, type (ex. partnership) or year of establishing. A lot of care was taken to represent the sizes of the groups in a straightforward fashion. We fine-tuned the clustering algorithm that governs when the markers join or not. As one of our top priorities was to design and implement a cluster-based map which clearly conveys concentration of entities without using numbers.
